Sinking Swimmer
During the CA/F 2013-14 girls
Swim season,
I received the Sinking Swimmer
Medal.
This award is given out annually at every
Flushing girls swim banquet.
We arrived in a local country club,
With snow falling,
And only the moon to light up the black sky.
Inside, with the swimmers
Settled down eating dinner with
Their families, my captain
Rebecca Hrit arrived to a microphone
In view of everyone.
She started to present awards,
And gave a speech on what it meant to receive the
Sinking Swimmer medal.
She talked about how it
Represented the heart of the team,
As well as the most spirited.
Rebecca said many other
Kind words that were
So heartwarming,
I couldn't help but have
My eyes filled with tears knowing
This moment wouldn't last long.
Walking to her
To receive the orange and black ribboned medal,
With my team,
Clapping, wooing, and smiling,
Was a very
Bittersweet moment.
Most of the words going through
My mind were
"I love this team so much."
and
"I'm going to miss this team so much."
I'm very thankful for having the
Opportunity to experience having a team
I also called my family.
Things may not be the same as they were
During that season, and I do miss it
With a great mass of my heart,
But I'm happy it happened,
Rather than sad it ended.
