The Race
The Race
Standing behind the blocks,
staring out at the clear pool,
she hears the deafening silence
and feels the warm chill
down her spine.
When the buzzer goes off,
breaths held by everyone
in the small crowd,
she’s off into the water
feeling like a bird
that’s flying underwater.
And slicing through,
one stroke at a time,
kick after kick,
she finishes a terribly good race.
