The Creature
The Creature
Scratch, scratch.
My body was tense
I didn’t dare to move,
not even to breathe.
Scratch, Scratch.
The noise.
Again.
Hotel lights flicker
from off to on
blinding my dull,
tired eyes.
My heels hit heavily
against the unforgiving floors.
I take off.
The pads of my toes
prancing and tiptoeing
as if I was on a bed of oozing lava.
Suddenly interrupted by a loud,
squealing cry.
Black marble eyes
stared into mine.
A crinkled up nose
scrunched at my sight.
Ragged and hard fur
layed in uneven rows,
placed carelessly across
the tiny, slim and
mysterious body.
Our eyes met for a hot moment,
before it scurried away.
I tripped over my feet,
trying to get away.
I reached the bed,
hurling myself into the air.
rebounding, over and over.
I shut all doors
locking out the creature.
The black-eyed,
crinkled nose,
gray and black creature
that stared into my
petrified eyes.
A simple mouse
causing chaos that night.

This is a narrative poem that I wrote about when my family and I encountered a terrifying creature at Disney.
