Blood Red Lips
Jealous of her beauty,
Her step-mother wishes her dead
A walking corpse she sends,
To bring back Snow’s head.
A bite to the neck
A scream from her lips
Bloodshot eyes
The nights’ silent as she cries.

Broken tears stream down her face,
Lost in the forest
Her headache throbs,
As she continues her scared, lonely sob.
Cold chills erupt,
they cause her to tremble
Her teeth chatter even though the sun shines bright,
So abrupt her sickness was, it caused her quite a fright.
Lost inside this forest,
Apple’s on the trees.
Woodland creatures watch
As if sensing her end is near,
Filling this young beauty, with unshakeable fear.
She stumbles upon a cabin in the woods
And is greeted by seven young men.
Glad she is to have found her way
Glad she is to be far, far away...
Away from what,
Away from whom.
Away from hate,
Away from doom.
Or so she thought.
No more headaches
No more fear,
Her pale body lay still
Ceasing the chill.
Awake at dawn,
Seven men gather around her grave,
Prepared to bury
The woman they saved.

Her eyes fly open,
She takes her first breath
Surprising everyone
And beating death.
Still so pale,
The sun burns her skin
She retreats inside
Her attempt to hide.
An insatiable hunger overtakes her.
A seven-course meal
She was fed,
Seven men,
Seven dead.
Hair black as ebony
Skin pale as snow
Lips stained red with blood.

I thought back to my favorite fairytale, Snow White, and combined it with something else I love; vampires. Perhaps this is a bit childlike, vampires and fairytales, but I wanted to put a twist on Snow White’s story. I wanted to make it a bit more grim as well like the original Snow White instead of Walt Disneys version.
