Narrative Poem
A spring evening
clouds blanketed over the sun
My dog LIbby, a beautiful yellow lab
stared intensely into the thick forest
she turned her milky yellow head
her eyes met mine
her sweet brown eyes,
spoke and
her voice is bold,
loving
sweet like eating candy
the world was peaceful.
The sun laid its head on the horizon
as we walked
into the warm house.
************************************************
Another school day,
unfocused
uneasy
school went by fast
in a slow way
I was waiting for my mom to pick me up
Still zoned out
I barely noticed the car pulling up next to me
I got in and my mom told me horrible news
thoughts flooded my mind
heart raced like a beating drum.
LIbby was
gone
she ran away.
mom said she was letting Libby go to the bathroom
when she turned around Libby was missing.
The world got darker
like all purpose was sucked out of it
It seemed like hours before
we got home.
when we got there I screamed,”Libby! Libby!”
over and over
I screamed like a crazy person
looking for my sanity.
************************************************
I sat on the swings
alone
as the wind gently pushed me
the tree tops swayed
they sang a song of sorrow
as tears swelled in my eyes.
It felt like forever, but
we found her at the pound
my dad went to get her
he carried her in
down the cold stairs
and gently laid her down in her crate
I looked at her
horrified
I saw her,
broken,
bruised
I began to cry,
her paws were
cut and scarred
“What happened?” I whispered.
To me it didn't matter
I was so happy that she was
home.
my family went upstairs
I was left alone with her
she slowly turned her sad face toward me
and her eyes
still bright
full of life
and happiness
her face shifted
and faintly
you could see a
smile appear
her eyes began to close
as her head began to
drop.
Libby was home,
I was happy as I watched her
fade into a dream.
