The Crash
“Everything is OK”
the announcer ensured.
JW Meyers
the driver for Peters & May,
is on a rescue boat
that is crawling toward
his wrecked boat
near the Roostertail restaurant
on the Detroit River.
Meyers limps
onto Peters & May,
the fluorescent yellow boat,
and lies down,
clutching his ankle.
The rescue boat leaves him behind,
still clutching his ankle.
A couple minutes later,
he arises,
and climbs back
into the cockpit.
The boat crawls
back toward the restaurant.
The destroyed right sponson
knocks the seawall
with so much force,
that debris
from underwater
and the restaurant
comes hurtling back
towards the boat.
The glass from
in the restaurant
flies with the debris
until there are
no shattered windows.
All of the metal
lands perfectly on the boat
in the right place,
so that it is as good as new.
The force from the richocket
bounces the boat
back into the race
at 150 miles per hour,
back through
Formula’s shimmering roostertail,
in turn number two,
the Roostertail turn.
Formula lane two,
Peters & May lane one.
They are neck and neck
down the main stretch.
They are neck and neck
down the main stretch….
