A Choice to Smile

Everybody deserves happiness, but you don’t have to hold their arm to help them find it
You can’t point it out to them on top of a mountain
Even if you try your hardest and leave it all out there it won’t make a difference
They can pretend to be happy but it all comes down to their choice
Don’t waste your tears trying to help them when they can’t even help themselves

The rain will come, but they decide whether or not to dance in the rain
The opportunities will knock on the door but they choose if they want to open it
Summer will smile but they choose whether or not to embrace it
A caramel apple will sit in front of them, but you can’t make them eat it

It’s hard to watch them throw away something they love because of a fear
A fear they will eventually have to get over or they won’t have a person to say “Hi” to
I’ve been that witness begging that they would give it a shot, be optimistic

Don’t let your fears get in the way of something bigger then them
And even if you fail in the process of trying, at least you tried

When they don’t see what’s worth living for
I tried to paint a picture of happiness
But a slap comes to the face and they see a shadow in the corner

When they let their fears control them
When they sit back and watch their life fall apart
You can help them put it back piece by piece
But they have to find the final piece to the puzzle

It’s not over, there is always something worth living for
It’s your choice to be happy

I hope people realize that it all comes down whether or not you want to be happy, you have to choose to smile.
