Open Sky

The sky called with open arms
To the birds of the Earth
But forgetten were we
The humans longing to be free
So I opened my arms and jumped
Off the windblown Earth
To the sound of a million drums
And the light of a thousand suns
Lighting my face
And filling my lungs
With the undying breath
Of freedom
But when I fell
The sky sucked it back in
Stole my breath
And demanded I land
Never to fly again
