The Girl Your Parents Love to Hate

Step 1: I had on a too short skirt when I met you

But it was my favorite two years ago

And I was feeling nostalgic

Step 2: Girls like me are the reason musicians smash their guitars

We are beautiful, but we will never admit we need you

We are endlessly frustrating and painfully proud

You once told me this was the kind of love that made you want to burn stuff

To destroy things, this love made you feel like a man you said

I don’t know how those two things are connected

Step 3: Poetry is about lying to tell the truth

And I wrote you nothing but love poems

Step 4: Gray, the unlikely color of hope

Your eyes clouded over, smoke screen, mirrors, mazes

A million uncertainties

Step 4: Sex

“You should love this as much as I love you”

Step 5: Moments of quiet reconciliation are incomparable

Step 6: Pretentious romantic gestures are kind of your superpower

Keeping your word is kind of your biggest fault

Step 7: There are holes in your apology, you used to be my galaxy

Step 8: It goes from babe to b**** real fast

Step 9: I will never be your perfect, I wouldn't want to be

Step 10: The girl you love to hate
