Saltwater
I smell the sea,
Balmy air
And salty sweetness
As they lay my body down,
And I smell the sea,
Hear the gulls cry out
In longing need
Of the ocean's soft kiss
Or even the turbulance
Of frothy waves,
And I smell the sea,
Warm raindrops into
Bottomless masses of murky ocean,
The wind whispering last goodbyes,
As the mourners cry saltwater
Into folded hands,
Murmuring tide pools
Of lost regret,
Wishes in bottles set out to shatter,
The waves black and sorrowful,
And the sea is awash in light
As golden horizons
Break with the dawn,
Like the beacon of a lighthouse,
Welcoming me onwards,
The tsunami of a funeral
I leave behind
Smells so much
Like the sea.
