Silence’s Companion.

Spring

is

real.

She is the world waking up after sleeping in on a Saturday morning.

It’s not always pretty,

beauty queens, sleeping in Chanel.

Spring

is

shy.

Spring doesn’t like to come out of the dressing room right away.

Spring likes to peek around the corner and smile so they remember she is there.

Spring

is

afraid.

They are so extraordinary and she is so ordinary.

She is scared to say the wrong thing to them.

She is scared to say the wrong thing with Silence.

Spring wishes to be like them.

Spring wishes she could be like Silence.

Spring

is

dramatic.

She likes to keep them waiting just a little longer than necessary.

To feel seen, Spring needs all of their eyes.

Spring likes to surprise.

Don’t look for her, there is no need.

You will see her.

Spring

is

observant.

Spring doesn’t miss a thing.

She sees the details in the fabric and stitching in the leaves.

Spring smells the roses.

Spring

is

intense.

Spring just might be bipolar.

Spring has some crazy emotions.

Spring feels everything like it is the last time she will ever feel anything.

Spring

is

conflicted.

She wants to be accepted by them.

But she also longs for Silence.

He is different.

Maybe she is different.

She doesn’t know.

Spring

is

lonely.

Spring just longs to be noticed because she is important too.

She is never their first choice.

Spring is just the one they stand with until their better offer comes along.

Spring

is

sad.

Spring cries a lot.

They all love the flowers but hate the rain.

They all see the smile but ignore the tears.

Spring doesn’t feel loved for all that she is.

Spring wants to end.

Spring

is

brave.

She whispers to Silence, “I love you.”

Spring’s Companion.

Silence

is

tall.

Silence is a mighty fortress that can never be shaken.

He looms over like a wall, not letting a single soul pass.

Silence

is

polite.

He lets the others speak, listening with curious ears.

He opens the door for Noise, letting her go first.

Silence is a gentleman.

Silence

is

mysterious.

Silence keeps a mask on so as not to frighten anyone.

He is a facade of the man that he truly is.

Silence isn’t shy, he just likes to evoke wonder.

Silence

is

respected.

His voice is an endangered sound.

He commands attention without ever saying a word, yet,

His unexpected rarity is loved.

Silence

is

articulate.

He speaks with conviction.

Silence uses only the most necessary words.

Silence says so much yet says so little.

Silence

is

calm.

Silence embodies the way wind looks as it gingerly lifts the pine branches.

Silence enervates Noise when she loses her symphonic chaos.

He is like a stone in the ocean, changed only by his environment.

Silence

is

conflicted.

He wants to be accepted by Noise.

But he also longs for Spring.

She is different.

Maybe he is different.

He doesn’t know.

Silence

is

lonely.

Silence just longs to be noticed because he is important too.

He is never her first choice.

Silence is just the one Noise stands with until her better offer comes along.

Silence

is

deafening.

He says a lot.

But Noise doesn’t hear him and assumes there is nothing to hear.

Noise hears no words and assumes there are no thoughts.

Silence is speaking if Noise would just stop and listen.

Silence wants to break.

Silence

is

happy

As Spring is whispering, “I love you.”

Silence smiles.

He whispers, “I love you.”

The author's comments:

These two companion pieces vaguely mirror each other as they live their lives in representation of the inconsistant and often unpredictable emotions that we, as humans, all feel.
