Dogs can be trained

But they really don’t care

Turn your back

They sit in your chair

Went to obedience school

Know how to mind

But when visitors come

They somehow unwind

As naughty as a child

and as sticky as glue

Sometimes when they are wild

they’ll chew on your shoe.

But when they join our lives

They always fill our hearts

We will never ever

Want to part

To whisper my fears

And to lick away my tears

There’s no better friend

That I have ever found

But their lives are too short

For the happiness they give

Why do they have to leave

When we get to live?

Now my dear beloved pet

One last command i have

Please wait for me in heaven

And be my eternal friend

Although you had to leave me

I know that you will wait

You’ll wag your tail to greet me

When i come through heaven’s gate.

My poem’s subject is about a dog that has been my best friend for a long time. Hence I got my inspiration from my dog. When I thought about the phrase “dogs are man's best friends” and realised it was true, I decided to write this poem about the dog. The mood of the poem is touching as at the start, the dog seems so naughty and keeps on doing things that I don’t like, however at the end, I realise that the dog was my best friend and was always there when I needed company, but it died eventually. The poem expresses my feelings towards the death of the dog. The aim of this poem is to show that dogs are really man’s best friend .Some dictions like  “As my eternal friend” is to enhance the tone of the persona and show how intense his emotions are.
