A Poem Begins...
A poem begins…
There’s a lump in my throat.
Do I dare say that I love you?
Should I leave it in a note?
You haunt my dreams,
But in sleep I do find peace.
In you I find my happiness,
Tis only just a dream.
All those things…
Feeling that never fade,
Thoughts that should be spoken,
Memories etched in my brain.
There’s a lump in my throat…
Are these written truths enough?
Are these symphonies of syllables worthy of your love?
Bathed in your beauty
I just can’t speak.
“A poem begins…
with a lump in the throat”

This piece was inspired by a quote by poet, Robert Frost, which reads:
“A poem begins with a lump in the throat; a homesickness or a love sickness. It is a reaching-out toward expression; an effort to find fulfillment. A complete poem is one where an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.”
