Pathetic
Oh how to overcome the unforgiving cackle of daffy dogwood boughs burning?
We dive into flames like intrepid children
Rolling our r’s
And churning our whispers into roars
We stop short of asphyxiation
We want to defy appellation
We smolder until the corners of our eyes
Crinkle like creased polaroids
Wobbling, punch-drunk, like teetering totems
Yearning for icons,
indelibility, to bawl at the podium
fire and flames and serpentine perpetuity
tea-stained, glass-rimmed, gilded pouts
smashing wooden blocks of flint-wood doubts.
