Run (I dare you)
I dare you to run.
To lace up your old tennis shoes again, and take off.
To wear wild leggings on your trek through main street,
Totally oblivious to passers by.
To focus not only on the sloping terrain,
But your breathing, as well.
To challenge your iPod,
Betting that you'll reach your destination before the seventh song in your playlist is up.
To casually smile and slide to the side,
Making way for other people out and about, embracing spring.
To free your ever-so-busy mind,
Stopping your incessant arguments with yourself as you inhale.....exhale.
To become one synchronized movement from your nose to your toes.
The *thud* of your feet matches the sway of your hips, as your heart rate increases.
To continue thinking "I can do this, I can do this!"
As hundreds of cars pass you on the street.
To not even worry about how 'fat' you think you look,
Because the fact that you are out there, doing it is something the bullies have not.
To go until you can no longer breathe the wonderful oxygen from your tired lungs,
And then some.
To believe in how happy you will be once you see the results you dream of,
In the mirror staring across from you, no longer mocking you.
To remember that it's one leg before the other,
Unless you're trying to propel your body over a large puddle.
To remain fully optimistic while you run,
To-and-back from your desired goal, having stopped just once, so graefully.
To feel like a perfectly dandy potato in motion,
As the breeze slaps a strand of hair on your nose in the sunlight.
To be free for an hour's time,
As you rid yourself of unnecessary stress with each mile toward the great beyond.
To be your own person,
And do something physical for you and you only.
To put aside all of your excuses,
To get out there, and do it.
I dare you to run.

I got the inspiration for this piece when I was on a run one day. I felt that itnwas kind of beautiful in its own way, a unique rhythm that only runner's will understand.
