The colored man was white,
why? i do not know
My cousin once told me
White is nothing,
a color without color

So why is the colored man white?
Does that mean he's colorless?
Does it make him nothing?
Does that make him me?

Why does the white girl think
of something so small?
She is white, they are white
Even the colored man is white

i know why she thinks of the man
she knows what he knows
she knows the world is more than sight
she knows the colored man is more than
White

The author's comments:
At my church, there is a large Crucifix behind the alter with Jesus being a solid white. I thought it was strange that he was like this, and so I speak of him as being "the colored man."

the color of Jesus's skin will never be know to us on earth until he comes. Altho, historians think, (based off the poeple that live there) that he had more like and olive tone than white.. but again they havent see him in person either :)
