Of Rain, Sorrow, and Terrible Misfortune.
She smelled of rain.
Of rain, and sorrow, and terrible misfortune.
And her heavy frown bore a resemblance to that of a terrified child;
the corners of her shivering lips falling into the creases of her pale cheeks
that lacked the summer glow
everyone else seemed to have.
She stood,
trembling in the doorway of his house,
her hair painted onto her face,
water trickling around her lightly
and kissing her white skin.
She didn't have to say anything.
For the silence was too heavy
to be broken
by adolescent words.
But he knew.
He knew that there was a piece of her
that she would never get back.
Too many things had happened
that day.
Too many broken promises,
hurtful words,
and painful truths.
That's the day she lost her soul.
