Fallen Diamonds
They say that April showers bring May flowers
But its been
Days
Weeks
Months
of nothing but dark swirling clouds
And cool rain burning against my
Pale skin.
I haven't seen roses in what feels like forever
So when I strolled along the sidewalk
I was surprised to feel the prickle
Of its thorns break through my barrier
Red poison dripping down my toes.
I almost pulled back from the offending plant
Barely stopping to see that a red rose
Had grown between the cracks of the sidewalk
Its sweet smell paralyzing my thoughts.
So this is what love is like.
Your petals catching the raindrops
Like fallen diamonds
Turning a dreary day into
Something worth living through.
