Could Not Advance
The gun clicked and I picked my stance
Determined, I liked my chance
As the gun shot, I took off in a prance
I was much ahead at first glance
I now regret I took the chance
The unbreakable record, I wanted to break
Going much too fast, my feet started to ache
I had no choice but to apply the brake
The lead was mine but I now had to walk
Exhausted, I fell to the ground like a rock
The crowd, amused, began to mock
I sat there, devastated, watching the victor perform his victory dance
Due to my pompous manner I could not advance
