Fading Away
Heels break into soft waves
 looming forward like white
 tipped mountains
 on the horizon.
 They ripple at my feet,
 circling in and out again
 like a scared animal.
 Footprints fade away
 into the blue.
As a small mud covered boy works
 tirelessly to make a castle.
 While I stand,
but a still droplet on an endless ocean.
 I could stay here forever,
 but I will leave soon
 and come another day
 to find the sand empty,
 no footprints
 or castles.
It is as if the boy and I never
 did exist.
So what is the point of this day?
 Without me
the sand, the waves would stay the same
 now…forever.
So why are there so many
 jagged stones, glass, bones
if I will soon be buried,
 forgotten.
 Yet then without the ocean
 broken glass would be
 thrown away.
 But on the shore
 it is a gem
 that gleams in my hand,
 in my heart.
