wings
she makes the shape
of the earth
when she is afraid.
the bruises her ribs leave
on her stretched skin
leave her more open
to the cold air
that scratches at her
when she stands on the shore.
this is where she blows away.
the way her shoulder blades
lie tight against the skin on her back
like her old wings
could break out
and send her somewhere across the sea.
she is like air and like water
and it will take nothing
to take her away.
