(No More) Suffering in Silence

Tease me,
Silence.
Knock me down,
Silence.
Let me keep quiet,
I'm sure it'll be over soon.
Yet deep down inside,
At the bottom of my heart,
I know that isn't true.
But I don't know what to do,
I'm afraid to go to school,
And I'm afraid to face the truth.
Even though all this is happening,
I still continue on.
I'll go to school try my best and hopefully nothing goes wrong.
Once I heard bullying was constant harassment,
Is that what's happening to me?
Maybe this is different,
Or maybe I'm just afraid,
Afraid of confrontation.
It’s not easy though.
You can't just say stop and continue on with your day,
But that doesn’t mean I’m okay with it.
It’s scary.
What if it gets worse?
I guess I just have to try then.
This can’t happen every day.
Although this is the millionth time I’ve thought this thought,
I never follow through with my plan,
More like my dream,
One day I will,
Hopefully soon.
I put my face on for my parents and family,
So they won’t know what’s going on,
I’ll hold it in,
Though I want to cry,
And yell,
And tell you to stop,
I’m not that strong,
Just a kid,
Trying to get by,
Wouldn’t it be nice though?
Living.
Laughing.
Loving myself.
Making everyday a happy day,
Free from all the bullies,
The mean girls,
The people who put me down and make me feel worthless,
WOW,
That would be wonderful,
No more pillows soaked with tears,
How nice that would be.
I pray to GOD every night that this will stop,
Praying helps,
It really does,
But I know I also have to take action myself,
Today’s the day,
For sure,
I’ve held back too long,
Coming into school,
The girls snicker,
Laugh,
And point,
At me.
I don’t care,
I have my head held high,
Bully comes,
Confrontation,
She looks at me,
I walk away,
The next day,
Another day,
Weeks go by,
I’m amazing,
I never knew I had it in me,
A new feeling is here,
In me,
Every day,
I think…
I think…
I think… It’s called joy.

I wrote this poem for a friend who I know is suffering at school with bullies. The message that I'm trying to send through this poem is that many victims of bullying need to stand up. Say no to bullying. Tell them you will not succumb to violent and nasty behavior and that you are not okay with it at all! You are an amazing person and you deserve respect.
