Do You Remember?
Do you remember her?
Do you remember how her luscious black hair cocooned her tanned, plump face?
Do you remember how her feet delicately brushed the rocky ground as they danced their way into her new home?
Do you remember how she used to lay there, her rumpled clothes thrown all over,
Yet every fragment of her skin was uncovered.
Do you remember how she used to fill her lungs with enough air to deafen her neighbors with her shrills,
And how the cacophony soon died out as her babes' muddled laughter soared through the sky,
The melodious tone bouncing off every set of ears.
Do you remember how her glossy hair fell into a growing pile as the black slowly faded out?
Do you remember her hunched back and worn skin,
Looking as if it were a crumpled piece of paper trying to smoothen out again.
Do you remember her calloused fingers grabbing onto the bed post, attempting to get up
Wanting to catch one last glimpse of me before I part.
Do you remember the pained grin on her face, tears flooding her eyes?
Do you remember how she gave up on her only hope?
Do you remember how my rigid fingers tapped on the hard screen,
Wanting to be able to talk to her; to hear her.
Do you remember how her heart was filled with adoration for everyone,
Yet she got nothing in return.
Do you remember how she writhed in pain, crying for someone to help her?
But no one did.
Do you remember the night she batted her eyelashes for the last time,
And fluttered her eyes shut after her tiresome and excruciating journey
With no one by her side.
