The Color of the Sky
The sky is as hazel as your eyes, and exactly as infinite.
Your eyes tell me more than your lips do.
Your lips told me “Thank you,”
But your eyes told me
That you took that piece of my soul
And you stored it inside of yours.
The clouds between strangers
Split to show the sky between friends
And as time marched on
I thought I saw a glimmer
Of the sun
Of something more
Shining in your eyes
But I couldn’t see
That it was merely the reflection of my sun.
The storm clouds descended over your sky
And I avoided looking up
Afraid of the new things I would see
Afraid of the old things you would see.
The dark clouds begin to part again
Slower this time, more cautious,
But I don’t look up
I don’t try to see the sky
Because I long to see the sun in your sky
And I know it’s hiding inside of me.
