You Need To Wake Up
“You need to wake up”
2 am, I am fast asleep, dreaming
of you and what could have been.
“You need to wake up”
Since our breakup a month ago, I
have become nothing more than an
object you use for your selfish desires.
“You need to wake up”
As if I would want to be awake
only to have you crawl into my
bed, the nauseating stench of alcohol on
your breath, exploit me, then leave again.
“You need to wake up”
I remember the first night it happened,
I laid there with tears rolling down
my cheeks, you didn’t seem to notice, or
maybe you didn’t care. But when you
slurred “I love you”, somehow I believed it.
“You need to wake up”
Here I am, the next morning, reading
the numerous messages you sent me
ending with this one. Part of me
crumbles realizing I missed you,
but I catch part of me, a small
part, thanking God that I didn’t wake up.
