I will fight the stereotypes of Camden.
I will be the Freedom Fighter who fights for our education.
I am the warrior that relentlessly fights for what I believe in.
The systemic, slick, slimy trail of oppression will be discontinued and wiped up.
I will patch up the broken windows of Camden City.
I will see the glimmering, luminous, light getting closer as I plow the way to college in the dark.
I will hit the ground running with outstanding test scores that will embolden people’s eyes.
I will be the change of Camden.
I will prove America wrong.
I will succeed and prosper with weak legs, cracked lips, and a heart full of pride.

This poem was a class assignment for a Memoir project. Because Camden is a city plagued by stereotypes, this poem reflects the change that I will make. The destruction of the oppressive systems that hurt my city, and so many others like it, will be my legacy.
