Disgust
Ha. Equality.
    What an absolute f a n t a s y.
 When did we become so a d v a n c e d

that we discriminate based on colour

  and orientation

    and gender?

 “We’re all human.”

It seems as though those words
    have l o s t all meaning.

Ask the mother, father, sister, or brother
 and they’ll tell you how i n h u m a n we are.

Does the lack of a chromosome change us?

Does the shade of our bodysuit scare us?

Does the inevitability of love separate us?

Ask the victim and they’ll say n o
 ask the a t t a c k e r and they’ll say yes.

If humanity is so terribly tainted

with the blood of the innocent
   — are we entitled to the awareness of our choices?
How are we better than the creatures

    we discriminate a g a i n s t?

Because the concept of equality doesn’t h i t you

 until you’re breathing your l a s t breath,
   snatching somebody else’s f u t u r e
 and w r e c k i n g your own.
