I
Me and you
are one.
Me and you and your big old sweater,
are one.

II.
The elderly, marked hands
clenched tight
to the cream wool.
It was her sweater,
or it used to be.
He knew this day would come.

III.
Piazza New York Catcher is playing.
Somewhere far away,
you must be wearing your knit pullover.
The same one you wore,
the night we met.

IV.
I don’t know which to prefer,
the beauty of imperfections,
or the beauty of a perfect lie.
Your old sweater breaking down,
Or just a better future.

V.
She judged boys based on their sweaters.
He’ll watch 90’s movies with me.
I bet he sails Nantucket’s shores.

The cinema went empty.
