Cancer
Laying there,
on that cold hospital bed
hopeless
thoughtless
breathless.
Gasping for the silk-like air
but it wasn’t coming!
5 minutes down, 25 minutes to go.
As the Bible was being read,
our sobs became apparent,
spreading huge and wide like a wild fire.
A room filled with 10 people
became a room filled with a million tears.
As my grandma spoke the words,
“It’s okay. You suffered enough, it’s your time to go”
the words “to go” echoed the room.
On the count of
three
two
one
He was gone.
That 30 minutes of heartbreak became the
30 minutes that I’ll always remember.
