This Is the Narrator Speaking MAG
Hello, who is this? I say.
This is the narrator speaking.
Sitting on my chair
A pipe in my mouth
I am Holmes and you are Watson.
I explain, you exclaim,
Flabbergasted by my genius.
Who is this? Who are you?
This is the narrator speaking.
Coiled on a mushroom
Complex lavender spirals swirling
I am the caterpillar and you are Alice.
I muse; now you scoff,
Mystified by my insanity.
Who are you? Why are you here?
This is the narrator speaking.
On a plush rug
My long legs coiled beneath me
I am the caretaker and you are the child.
I dictate, you listen,
Wide-eyed with the wonder of innocence.
Why are you here? What does it all mean?
This is the narrator speaking.
Gesturing with both arms
Illuminated by raucous flame
I am the storyteller and you the listener.
I present; you sit in silence,
Whether my story is to educate or entertain.
What does it all mean? Why are you still listening?
This is the narrator speaking.
I am the caller and you the receiver.
I am the doctor and you the patient.
I am the parent and you the child.
I am the lover and you the partner.
I am the cat and you the bird.
I am music and you the air,
I am the story and you the page,
I am hope, and you the void.
So, this is the narrator speaking.
Allow me to tell you a story.
But – hang on – I have to put you on hold.
Because English,
Math,
Science,
History,
Art,
Teachers,
Essays,
Homework,
Parents,
Classmates,
Parties,
Employment,
The “real world,” as it were,
Thinks it is more important than you.
