Invasion
You could see their silhouettes
As they came over the hill
The sun cast shadows before them
As it simmered on their backs
Their steady strides
Their intimidating numbers
They grew closer and closer
The outlines of their bodies became clear
Their faces could soon become recognizable
They all had stone faces
They all carried pride
They all carried courage
They all carried guns
Their march beat down onto the soil
In the same melody
Their commander’s face red
Theirs caked in dirt
They did not show any relent
Even in the desert sun
They were coming for us
Supposed to make peace
Supposed to be heroes
Supposed to be saviors
Supposed to make things better
Supposed to save people
They did not
They tore down everything we have ever known
Destroyed our pride
Destroyed our courage
Destroyed our hope
Left us with nothing
Left us searching for our loved ones
Even though some would be lost forever
But they do not know that we are stronger than them
Just in a different way
We cannot win the fight
We cannot take revenge
We cannot ensure things will ever be the same
But they do not know how much heart we have
They do not know how much love we have
They do not know how hard we will try to make things better for our children
They do not know us at all
They do not know our names
They do not know our ages
They do not even know how to speak our language
But we know that with everything taken from us
We would be just as evil as them
To try and take away their homes
Their families
Their towns
Their lives
So we do nothing
But what can you call someone who willingly destroys others integrity
Pride
Courage
Happiness?
Of all the horrible names we would like to think of
They carry the title of
Soldier.
