The Artist's Lament
Do not dare doodle on that red-marked test
For it is the only way to keep you awake
Instead, leave it in that big, old closet to rest
Art, for you, has always been like a treasure chest
Precious and gorgeous, yet something so fake
Do not dare doodle on that red-marked test
In front of your sketchbook is a small, pretty bird nest
But as soon as you draw, the branch starts to break
Instead, leave it in that big, old closet to rest
You’re used to getting all A’s, although very stressed
Yet all you want to do is draw and eat cake
Do not dare doodle on that red-marked test
Perhaps you need an art session at its best
Gather your Fails and D’s with a rake
Instead, leave it in that big, old closet to rest
This beautiful and horrid thing called art is like a quest
It brings to me joy, yet leaves quite the ache
Do not dare doodle on that red-marked test
Instead, leave it in that big, old closet to rest
