This World
So, I live in this world
A world where everyone has this perfect image in their heads
but this image is so far out of reach that nobody can reach it
They try and try until it hurts
Until they look at every last part of themselves and think, “Why aren’t you perfect?”
So, I live in this world
A world where you have goals and ambitions
A world where you have dreams and you believe in yourself
You don’t lack confidence or passion
You don’t fear what comes next
You don’t freak when the next door slams in your face
You just backtrack and rewind time until you’re lucky enough to find an unlocked one
One that welcomes you with open arms
So, I live in this world
A world where if you don’t swim, you drown
You can’t fly, you can’t think
You only have a few seconds to make your decision
Because no matter how hard you practice there will AlWAYS be that one moment your guard is down
and that will be when it hits you
Your mind won’t react quick enough and when it does, it’ll realize it’s to late
You’re sinking
So, I live in this world
A world where you have freedom
You can say what’s unfair and speak your mind
but in this world of freedom people have to freedom to not listen
You could be screaming in their faces, but it won’t matter
They’ve already decided they won’t listen
But sometimes, if you’re lucky you might find someone
Someone who you think will listen to you forever until one day they stop
So, you tell me. what hurts more,
Someone who never began to listen or someone who did, but stopped?
So, I live in this world
A world where the language changes every week
And if you don’t keep up you become completely lost
Lost for words
So, I live in this world
A world where music is the best medicine
The doctors can mend you, but not completely
You don’t have to understand the lyrics or the artist, just the beat
And it will always understand you
So, I live in this world
A world where intelligence isn’t important
You start to worry about what you should wear to school tomorrow instead of doing your homework
You start to wonder if you are popular enough
But, to be honest Popularity doesn’t last forever
So, I live in this world
A world where people think they can label you life
“Oh look. It’s the popular kid.”
Yeah, I guess it’s nice for a while, but what about when you want to be left alone?
You can’t just tell them to leave
because to them you’re fine and you have it all
When in reality, they don’t know the half of it
So, I live in this world
A world where you can’t express yourself
You can’t express your feelings for who you truly love because it isn’t allowed
It’s not right
You end up closing off, being afraid
You don’t want to be someone society has already constructed
You want to be you
So, I live in this world
A world where you can dance
Some people like to choreograph each part of their life
But some just dance through the rhythm as it pulls them through Hell and back
If they mess up, they can’t go back
The judges saw
So, they keep going, letting the bass drum take over instead of their minds
Until they collapse and are able to say, “I tried my best.”
So, I live in this world
A world where time is short
You don’t have time to sit around or learn everything there is to know
But you do have time to make a change
Small or Big?
If only one thing what would you change?
A law? A right? The way you live?
Maybe it is something that only you can see
But that’s all that matters right?
So, I live in this world
