Vending Machine
He stood for a while, giving himself
plenty of time
to make his selection
He only donated a bit over a dollar,
a trembling bill in comparison to the worth of the
tall machine,
But she took it,
And for it,
she let a drink fall,
and he took the drink that fell.
She, icy, metallic,
with screws to stabilize
otherwise flimsy, moveable parts,
Did not fight
Did not have arms to fight
Did not have a mouth to scream-
Just a tin box where the drink fell
and his hand reached in.
With a straw
he drank:
Inside of her, she had an empty space,
one less to offer, to showcase, to sell
he left her
Drink in hand
And droplets on his lips.
