Words
The words.
The sounds.
They jump off the page.
They surround us with love.
They swallow us whole.
They give us homes away from home.
And sometimes in those words,
we find friends.
They give us hope to imagine something different.
They help us to see worlds we’d never see without them.
They allow us to feel things far out of our reach.
They don’t leave us in our weakest and darkest hours.
They don’t abandon us after their story is told.
They get roughed up and dusty,
but still their words are ours,
and they don’t want to take them back.
