The Long and Tireless Fight
The Long and Tireless Fight
Her hand caressed the devils face
But fear him did she not
She laughed in the face of danger
For she knew she would not get caught
She ran and played mischievous games
Til they did become no more fun
But then it was time for tag
The devil would chase her and she would run
Her job was to keep the people safe
And distract the devil with her dismay
She cried and blamed the devils words
She hated everything he said
He sat around the corner
Waiting for the angel to come out
But when he tried to comfort her
She put a boot up in his mouth
Once more the angel had done her job
And the devil had been fooled
She slept in her silk bed
He could not sleep for his bad mood
So awake he stayed
He did not sleep again
He did not laugh nor play
We went to seek revenge
She smiled as she woke up next to him
Her wings were up but tired
But as she went to fly away
She smiled a menacing smile
‘Fear not Death we shall meet again
But as neither foe nor friend
For as long as I keep my people safe
We shan’t ever fight again
‘Oh sweet angel do come back
I’ve quite the sight to see
For it is not wits that I lack
Sweet angel you underestimate me’
She flapped her wings in response
Paying him no mind
But as she flew over her village
This is what she did find
Each house was set aflame; she blew each one out with the wind in her wings
Each person burned and crying; she soothed them with a kiss
Each heart that had been broken; she fixed them when she did sing
Each person did she comfort; there was not one that she did miss
The devil bowed his head
‘You played hard and well old friend’
But as he walked down the alley he waved and cocked his head
‘Goodbye sweet angel, I can’t wait til we meet again’
