The Epidemic of Whatever Your Drug May Be
The Epidemic of Whatever Your Drug May Be
(a “found poem” from ‘The Heroin Epidemic’)
It was pretty surprising.
This dark, secret world now worming its way into unsuspecting homes
Being the once who enabled it-
I gave the grip
Of something beyond mortal control,
Accompanied by a guilty conscience.
Shoving people down a slippery slope
There is a danger
In saying they’re just like people
And more in saying they are not
These addicts
People still wait for you to come home
To your untouched room
Unchanged world
Few understand the way addiction mangles families
Because few understand addiction
