No longer
I sit here in the silence
Bones frigid from the winter air
Mind too numb to go inside
Goose bumps on my arm
No longer from the thrill of your hand on mine
But from the bitter air
That now stings my back and makes my teeth chatter
Heart is racing
No longer from the exhilaration of sitting next to you
But from the utter hopelessness I feel
When I know you aren’t coming back.
Feet dangle from the roof
Where we used to sit, talk, and laugh
No longer any laughter here all by myself
Gray clouds overhead move in closer
Suddenly beginning to rumble
Even the sky is angry at him for leaving
For now it’s just me and the rain drops
Trickling quietly down my face
Blending with my tears
Reminding me that your gentle touch is no longer here
to wipe them away
