It’s game point in the fifth set
It has been a brutal battle
At this point, you’re exhausted
And it’s all just a mental game
It's thirteen to fourteen and you have the lead
The Up-Referee blows her whistle and gives the server the serving signal
Your back row is down in ready position
Your front row is calling out the setter and the hitters on the opposing side
Your heart beats as you sway, waiting for the ball to be served over
You look at the people on the other side of the net
Trying to stare them down with intimidation
The server bounces the ball three times
She rolls it in her hands and takes a deep breath
Hoping that she can just get it over
The ball gets tossed in the air and then she makes contact
Splat!
The ball soars across the net
The front row players switch to their original positions
The ball lands flat on the libero’s forearm
Up the ball goes for the perfect pass
Three front row players, loaded and all, call for the set
“Four, Four, Four!!!” yells the outside
“Go one, Go one!!!” roars the middle
“A,A,A!!!” screams the right side
Your setter brings the ball down and pushes out a four
This is your time to shine
Your feet go left-right-left
Your arms go from in front to behind you
You jump, flying through the air
It’s just you, the ball, gravity and time
The ball makes contact with your hand and you swing
In between the blockers and a fireball to the floor
A KILL!
Your team runs and gathers around you, cheering from the top of their lungs
The rest of your team and the coaches run out on the court
Celebrating the greatest kill of your life
Tears of joy run down your face
Whether it a free throw, free kick, or a field goal
Whether bases are loaded or it's game point
