Philosophical Change
How do people change?
They’re affected by who they are and what they see.
Why do people change?
They’re trying to become better human beings than they are already.
Who do people become when they change?
All kinds of people- pure and tainted both.
One man I encountered originally from his people he fled
Freedom from his restrictive society was what he sought.
But in the end he stopped his people from joining the dead
In a terrible war, he defended them and fought.
For a time he suffered from a haunting guilt
That he found his new purpose was to find his home rebuilt.
Another girl I knew dreamed of the perfect life
Dreaming of academia in the Western Hemisphere, a science degree
To perhaps become a loving wife
and one day, a Nobel Prize nominee
A girl who dreamed of the stars
Never realizing she was one.
And I, how much have I changed?
I was once an innocent child
Now I stand from society estranged
A tired soul who once had an anger wild
One who gave up everything for his craft
One who now clings to what little identity he has left like a raft.
One who is searching for who he is now
and who he will become.
One who intends to live fullest his life
for as long as time can allow.
