Beginnings
I AM from binkies
From Evenflow and Nuk
I AM from the sand in the sandbox to the water
And toys in the bathtub
I AM from the sunflowers
The Southeast North America
whose long spines have withered in the
blazing summer sun
I AM from crosses, rocks, and Easter egg rolling
From Blumenschein and Bothem to Scott
I AM from the scholars
and athletes
From hush baby lullabies
and fairy tale stories
I AM from the father, the son and holy spirit
who died to give me life
I AM from the land of the sun with roots from
Germany and England
bangers and mash and Nutella
From hearing about my grandfather lost to the war
to the broken heart my grandmother gave her life for
In the garage are filing cabinets
guarding the records of past works
a bunch of Young Rembrandts
that bring back memories of past
I AM from every color that graces this world
every word that touched my ears
I AM from those memories
that were long before
I was even a twinkle in anyone's eyes
before the I AM, I'm now destined for
adding color to the memories of the future
