I'm Okay.
Everyone has that moment,
That moment where someone asks you, “Are you okay?” and you wipe away the tears that were threatening to spill over and you say, “Yeah, I’m fine.”
But you really aren’t, are you?
Over the years things change.
Friendly faces become malicious and words of encouragement begin to drag you down.
Further and further into the recesses of your mind, where depression lurks and anxiety thrives.
Is it that hard to admit you aren’t okay?
Doesn’t everyone miss the good old days, where we all played in the dirt together?
Where the only time we cried was when we broke a crayon or scraped a knee.
What we didn’t realize is that a guideline had already been set in stone for our life.
Suddenly, there were different expectations and everyone was entered into a competition where there is never a winner.
We live a life where people carry words instead of baseball bats and knives.
We all know that words can cut a hundred times deeper than any knife, but still people wield them.
Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can kill me slowly.
