My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return. by Maya Angelou

Sometimes it's harder to let go of something so important but easier to get hurt from it.

When I look in the mirror,
I see a person I wish I wasn't.
When I look in the mirror,
I can only see the life I have lived.
The person I see is a stranger.
I look in the mirror and
I see a faint glimpse of beauty,
but then it gets covered with hate that others have gave me.
Looking in the mirror,
has only hurt me
and deceives of the true beauty that others have talked about.
When I looked in the mirror,
it helped me when I was little
but as time goes by,
it has only hurt me.

When I look in the mirror, is this assignment that my English teacher gave to my class and I and it was only a line from a movie. But to me, it was a way to express myself by writing this poem. What I would like to do is thank my teacher, Ms. Dillon, that without her assigning this line from a movie to become a poem, I wouldn't have written this. This poem inspired me because it is true, when I look in the mirror, I'll see this glimpse of beauty but then gets covered by all the hate and rude comments that kids gave me. From this poem, I hope to help others that they shouldn't just hate the way they look because it doesn't get you anywhere. Love yourself for who you are and how beautiful/handsome you are. I know times will get tough but I just hope this helps you like it has helped me when I wrote it.
