Death

Death is inescapable,
Its scary to think that you never know when you will die,
Every year you pass your death date and you don’t know,
You don’t know that that is the day where you will be sent to the great unknown,
What awaits us?
We hope there is something on the other side because how could we not,
How could we imagine a close friend or relative let alone ourselves simply disappearing,
Only alive in pictures and memories and eventually those will fade,
People once vivid in your mind will start to slip,
Every day you forget something about them,
Every day you forget them.
And when it once seemed impossible to forget such a person,
Eventually you will.
Eventually you will only recall the person on the anniversary of his or her death date,
Or maybe never recall them at all.
When someone close to you dies people say you should move on,
That the deceased would have wanted you too,
But is it so awful to want to be remembered.
So, when I think of death, all I can think about are the uncertainties,
Will anyone cry for me?
Will anyone think about me?
Will everyone simply forget who I was and what I stood for?
I can only hope that when death wraps its cold hands around my neck I have done as I have always wished,
I have lived fearlessly,
Loved endlessly,
And dreamed carelessly,
Because if at my death bed I feel as though I have lived my life to the fullest,
Then I will accept whatever fate awaits me with open arms and a warm smile,
Even the fate of slowly being forgotten.
