It’s hard to forget

With reminders everywhere;

Places that hold the memories

That break your heart

If you linger for too long;

People walking with tombstones

On their backs

Some green as a emerald

Glaring at you from across the room

Some blue as the brightest sapphire fire

Burning bright with relish

Some white as the purest undisturbed snow

After a night of continuous snowfall

Some gray as the darkest sky

In the fiercest storms at dusk;

Images flashing through your mind

At the most random times

Triggered by the lasting memories

That refuse to diffuse

From the front of your consciousness;

So many things

Bring back the hurtful memories;

It’s hard to forget

With reminders everywhere

Refusing to let us live our lives

Refusing to be forgotten;

Not that we care;

Sometimes we don’t want to forget

Sometimes we want to hold on

We want to see those reminders

To remember those memories

To never forget their faces;

We want to feel that hurt

That ache in our chests

Caused by the loneliness

Of being left behind;

That proves to ourselves

That they were real

And not a dream

Or our imagination

Sometimes we like that

They can’t be forgotten

With all of those reminders everywhere
