Society always encourages
Individuals to wear their hearts out on their sleeves,
to always express what’s inside
Them, for it will ease internal worries and
set self-consciousness free.

Free to what?
Free to be demolished by the eyes of socially superior human entities?
Free to experience the deafening silence of isolation?
It’s the freedom of being degraded by today’s tattered self-consumed world,
if in fact you choose to consider this a freedom.

The recurring complication is that we
Possess a social incapacity to consume information
while abstaining from judgment.
It is human nature.

Opinions are voiced,
No attention paid to morality,
only the hopes of boosting
Social status and Self-image.
Unfiltered.

So if you desire,
Wear your heart on your sleeve.
But don’t say I never warned you about the
destructive nature of
Societal sandstorms.

Personal experience with expressing who I am and what I believe in is what really inspired me to write this poem. I hope when people read it that they take it to heart because life is never going to be easy, and this is one of the challenges of it.
