Even Birds Can Sing
My ears became deaf to the shattering world around me.
I watched the dew adorn the sparkling grass
And I eavesdropped on the dove’s morning tune,
See, the world can still be right
It is easy to forget that, amid heartaches and headaches,
Wars and familial quarrels.
When I am stuck in darkness alone
Only the vultures accompany me,
Awaiting my impending defeat.
I am weak and helpless;
My eyes are blinded by immaturity and insecurity.
I long for someone to come,
Yet I know I am destined for destitution,
But then comes the redeeming song of my savior.
Carefully, she nurtures me and feeds my yearning soul.
Blue Jays make their home anew every season,
Yet never fear the future.
Eagles fly high and carefree,
With no worries in the world,
Each one share their own melody of hope.
So the next time the door slams,
And her voice whimpers as his hand raises,
I will sit down, squeeze my eyes shut
And listen as the dove sings.
