Two rivers flow freely in a hushed opening,
And I only wish it was possible to travel both to its end,
Neither acquired placid waters, both lacking established endings,
All I am sure of is that the rest of my journey will be forever altered.

I sail down the river that my heart yearns for,
Unsure of what lays before me,
Battered boats have been tossed to each side of the stream,
And naive ghosts from you past haunt the waters with their hearts like glass.

I turn back before I am too far lost,
And attempt to abandon my vulnerability with the hopeless stream,
Two rivers flow freely in a hushed opening,
And I navigated the one untraveled by,
Unaware and unaffected by the untold future.

My English teacher made an assignment where we had to write a personalized version of "The Road Not Taken". I was inspired by the bravery that one must take up to turn away from something, or in my case someone, that they've invested their full heart in, only to find out it's toxic. I hope to help other teens realize that it's not a bad thing to tear down the walls around your heart. Vulnerability is a beautiful quality. We will all make mistakes, we will all find out that Mr. Wonderful might not be so wonderful, and we will all grow stronger and move forward. That is my hope for teens.
