Day by day
night by night
the open water can be a wonderful delight,
from the smooth rolling waves,
to the endless boundaries.
There’s so little to see
in the great vast open sea.
Yet, as I stop and foresee,
I see at last,
For the hidden story tells the rest.

Day by day
night by night
Do you really know this wonderful delight?
From the rocky bottom
to the sunken ships
From the wail of a sailor’s last wish.
From a glimpse of heaven
To staggering depths,
Lying on the floor for a final rest.

So, when looking out
beware of the dangers lurking about,
because day by day,
night by night,
the open water is no mere delight.

Created this piece for a high school poetry project. Inspired by the idea of "the hidden message" in life in which I got the idea from The Discovery Channel's reality fishing show, 'Deadliest Catch'.
