Dear girl that isn’t ready to let go,
don’t.
Lucky number fifteen, the age you need to give your body away
or so they say.
All it is, is a competition, that everyone wants to lose.
Until you have lost,
and the prize is five hundred people knowing about your innocents.
People filling in the blanks.
All the know is “sex” and “party”.
The pressures on a girl to lose her virginity is everywhere.
They say you don’t have to,
but if you don’t they make you feel different, an outcast
if you say the word no.
Wait,
your innocents is yours,
not the boy that loves you long enough to take your childhood.
Wait, just wait,
until you can see the future in the way his eyes shine.
Let me tell you,
wondering if you are ready
means you are NOT.
You shouldn’t be scared in his arms.
His arms should feel as comfortable as breathing,
and I don’t think you can get that kinda love at fifteen.
Hun,
I know the pressures.
I know the want to know what everyone is talking about.
But hunny,
It’s your body, not theirs.
Do not conform.
Your worth does not need to be determined by them.
By something that is supposed to be special.

I wrote this poem for my niece when she gets older, so she knows her body is her own, and that she makes the choices and decisions that happen to her.
